Kobo is looking for a Kobo Originals & Catalog Manager to lead the Kobo Originals program and support Publisher Relations in The Netherlands and Belgium. Reporting to the EVP Publisher Relations and Content, you will lead the acquisition and production of Dutch language ebooks and audio books, and collaborate with Kobo’s marketing teams to promote the Originals program inside the Kobo platform and through our Dutch retail partner bol.com. You will work closely with the Kobo teams in The Netherlands and around the world to create great, compelling content across various genres and formats with authors, publishers and producers.
You’ll be living and breathing content creation – negotiating contracts, overseeing creative and production processes, making sure projects get delivered and external parties get paid, working with our marketing and analytics team to find new and interesting niches to publish into, collaborate with publishers to co-produce.
You are a relationship builder – a natural communicator and someone who loves the world of publishing and reading in the digital era. You dream of walking into a bus full of people listening to a book you commissioned and produced. You are deal-closer who understands that the idea and the handshake are only the beginning. You know your way around contracts, negotiations and sales reports, with an eye for the missed detail, the unexplored opportunity & the lateral solution. You have a deep knowledge of the book and creative industry, and therefore a wide, deep network of contacts throughout the community.
You understand eBooks and Audio books top-to-bottom: a-la-carte and subscription business models, value to consumer, royalty models and more. You know what authors, publishers, retailers and customers care about now and you have some strong opinions on what they’ll care about two years from now. You are keenly aware of the intersection of traditional publishing and self-publishing in the digital space, and the key players in each. You are comfortable with the changing roles in the publishing supply chain and are ready to re-jig the value chain.
You feel comfortable in a team but can get things done on your own. The idea of a virtual office spread across countries and time zones doesn’t scare you. You can build a budget, project, process or publishing plan. You mix good instincts with quantitative skills and you can apply commercial acumen to creative processes. You can throw serious heat with Excel if required.
· 3+ years relevant industry experience (publishing, tv production, marketing preferred);
· Experience in digital publishing/marketing
· Minimum BA/BS; Masters a plus
· Fluent in Dutch and English required; comfortable in at least one other language a plus
· Some travel required
